Worth it? — Privacy Policy

Worth it? is a Chrome extension that helps users quickly determine whether a YouTube video is worth their time. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains how we handle your information.

1. What We Do NOT Collect

• ❌ Personal identity information (name, address, phone, etc.)
• ❌ Your YouTube account or login credentials
• ❌ Your browsing history or viewing history
• ❌ Which videos you watch (unless you actively click the "Worth it?" button)
• ❌ IP addresses or device identifiers
• ❌ Cookies or tracking tags

2. How It Works

Only when you actively click the "Worth it?" button, we process publicly available information about that video:

• Video ID (public on YouTube)
• View count, like count, comment count (public information)
• Top 100 public comments (used to detect clickbait ratio)

This data is sent to our Cloud Function proxy server, which calls the YouTube Data API. Results are cached for 24 hours to reduce API usage. We do not know who is querying which video.

3. Local Storage

We store the following in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local):

• Your language preference (Chinese / English / Auto)
• Analysis result cache (prevents duplicate queries within 24h)
• List of videos you have recommended (prevents duplicate recommendations, local only)

This data is stored only on your device and never sent to us. You can clear it anytime in Chrome settings.

4. Cloud Storage (No User Identity)

To provide global cache, the leaderboard, and anonymous aggregate statistics, we store the following in Firestore:

• Video analysis cache: Video ID + public metrics, refreshed every 24h
• Recommended videos list: Videos actively recommended by users with 100+ scores (video ID, title, score)
• Daily leaderboard: Top 10 sorted videos
• Anonymous aggregate counters: Daily count of analyses per video category (e.g. "450 Music-category videos analyzed globally on 2026-05-01") and clicks per ad slot. Pure counters — no user ID, no IP, no session, no per-event timestamp.

None of this data contains user identity. We cannot identify which user recommended which video, nor which user performed any given click.

5. Recommendation Feature (Fully Voluntary)

When a video scores 100+, a "Recommend" button appears on the panel. Only when you actively click it does the video's public information get sent to our server for the leaderboard.

If you don't click, nothing is uploaded.

6. Bug Report Feature

If you submit a bug report via the extension panel, your email, message, and optional screenshot will be sent to the developer via Google Apps Script. It is used only to respond to your issue.

7. Third-Party Services

• YouTube Data API: Queries public video data
• Firebase (Google): Provides Cloud Functions and Firestore database
• Google Apps Script: Handles bug report emails

These services are subject to Google's own privacy policies.

8. Your Rights

• You can disable or remove this extension at any time
• You can clear all local storage in Chrome settings
• You can email us to remove videos you recommended (please provide the video ID)

9. Advertising

Ads may appear at the bottom of the panel. Ads are self-served (not AdSense) and targeted by video category and your extension's UI language.

When you click an ad, we send an anonymous aggregate counter increment request to our Cloud Function. This is used solely to produce daily click totals per ad slot for sponsor reporting. The request:

• ✅ Contains only: ad ID, the video's category ID (e.g. "10 = Music"), your extension UI language (e.g. "zh-TW")
• ❌ Does NOT contain: user ID, IP address, session ID, timestamp, video ID, or any personally identifiable information

Server-side we only increment a counter keyed by "date + ad ID + category + language". We cannot trace any individual user's behavior from these aggregate numbers.

10. Children's Privacy

This extension is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from minors.

11. Policy Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will notify you via an extension update. Continued use means you accept the updated policy.
